Is Your Employer Paying the Right Amount of Super?

By: Alan Preston   •   4 February, 2015

paying your SuperIf you have any doubt in mind that your employer is not paying the right amount of your Super or is not putting the amount in the fund allocated by you, try these methods out.

First steps towards convincing yourself

As a first and I reiterate, before anything else, talk to your employer and clear the issue. For all you know, what you might assume to be swindling on his part is actually miscalculation or wrong assumption on your part. For the purpose of getting things straight out of the horse’s mouth, just ask your employer the fund into which he is paying, how much is he exactly paying, and with what frequency.

Contact your Super fund

While you can contact your Super Fund to get precise information (the updated one) about your fund, the first step is to check your member statement. It will give you an account of the recent contributions made by your employer. If this does not tally with what you expect, you have a reason good enough to walk up to his cabin.

Take the matter to the ATO

As a last resort — and only to really bring your employer on his toes — you can enquire with the ATO. You can either call the ATO on 13 10 20 or utilise the Employee Superannuation Guarantee (SG) calculator.
